“A man is as young as his spinal column.” – Joseph Pilates. The spine, for Joseph Pilates, was the key to physical and emotional wellbeing. “If your spine is stiff at 30,” he once said, “you are old. If it is flexible at 60, you are young.”

Pilates works on developing the deepest muscles of our back and our belly, which helps to support our spine. This, of course, creates great posture, makes breathing easier, and promotes overall better health!

Staying pliable is huge! Being able to get down on the floor, and back up, without touching anything, shows integration. Pilates promotes staying amazingly pliable.

Staying present in mind. Staying focused. Pilates requires full mind-body presence, in each moment. This work over flows into life. Using our mind this way keeps us young.

Deep breathing. Full breaths. Oxygenating the whole body invigorates the organs. Keeping the heart pumping fresh blood through the body. Fully expanding those lungs revitalizes each and every cell of the body.

Trying new things keeps the whole mind, body, and spirit young. Pilates is always asking for more and for a new perspective. That “fresh look” at things.
